Natural fabrics such as cotton, wool, and linen have long been a passion of mine. Refined natural wool bedding is my latest passion in the realm of natural fabrics and fibers. I first discovered the benefits of using organic and natural fabrics for ease of cleaning when I had small children in the house all of the time. I could easily throw a natural cotton slipcover in the washing machine and grew to love the softness and casually elegant look. We spend a third of our life sleeping (if we are lucky) so shouldn’t we get the best products for the best night’s sleep? Wool is the ultimate fiber for bedding and can help you get the best, most luxurious sleep. This article will show you why.
Resistance to Dirt
Wool has a natural resistance to dirt. I have noticed over the years that all of my natural fabrics do resist dirt while synthetics seem to hold it.
Easy to Clean
As I mentioned above in the introduction what first drew me to natural fabrics was the ability to wash them. I don’t care how careful you are, things need to be washed now and then! Washable wools are a dream to care for.
Wool is An Amazing Temperature Regulator
Other mattresses may be comfortable but natural fillings such as wool will breathe better than synthetics such as polyester, polyeurethane forma, latex, and memory foam.
The average person loses between 1/2 liter to 1 liter of moisture each night. I don’t know about you but I was shocked to hear that statistic. Desorption is the physical process where a previously absorbed substance is released from the surface. Wool is the only fiber that is capable of extracting that moisture through desorption to maintain sleeping comfort. So even if two people sleeping side by side, a wool mattress can regulate each person’s individual temperature needs through this process. Because of these properties it is a great choice for those suffering from night sweats too. It really is the miracle fiber!
In addition to all of this wool is also a natural insulator.
Allergies No More
Wool is a natural fiber proven to be hypoallergenic providing relief from allergy sufferers. It is effective against dust mites, psoriasis, and eczema and it is chemical free. Wool allergies are very rare. Itching from wool does not actually come from the wool itself but most likely from the naturally occurring Lanolin in sheep’s wool. For allergy sufferers, studies have shown that only 1.7% reacted to the lanolin.
Wool Bedding is Safe
Wool is naturally flame retardant making it the perfect fiber for safe bedding products.
Wool is Eco-Friendly
Wool is both biodegradable and sustainable.
A Better Night’s Sleep
Studies have shown that getting a good night’s sleep is one of the most important things we can do for our health. The proper bedding has been shown to enhance sleep and improve our sleep quality by as much as 60%. 1

Wool Can Lower Your Heart Rate
Putting your body into a deep state of relaxation naturally lowers your heart rate. All of these things work together toward optimal health.
