Three Reasons You Want a Swing Bed Now
I am currently working with a customer on some custom cushions and pillows for a swing bed she recently purchased. We will be using Sunbrella and Duralee Fabrics in a blue and yellow palette for a new space being created as a screened in porch with a vaulted roof(that is a little challenging for the hanging swing bed but very doable). Long story short, I have become obsessed with swing beds!
The design is such a simple concept and provides the perfect solution to so many style, function, and space problems that arise when working to create an indoor outdoor space that is flexible and multi-functional.
1. You love the idea of a hammock but want something a little more formal for your outdoor room. Solution: swing bed
Sometimes we are flooded with all of the innovative things that are being done in outdoor furniture design that is made to look like indoor furniture and it is easy to forget that the simple hammock is one of the most popular pieces for outdoor furnishings. It does, however, instantly say outside. The swing bed provides that same function with a little more sophistication. Whiling away a summer day in a swing bed while ready a book is what it’s all about.
2. DIY is your thing…
A simple swing bed is a very simple thing to make. Check out this tutorial from Style It Chic showing how to make one with a very simple flat board for the platform hung with rope.
If you would rather not make one yourself, or you would like one with a more challenging design than your skills allow, Vintage Porch Swings makes several designs that appeal to almost any design taste.
- It’s just plain hip! (very bohemian)
You can cover it with throws, pillows, and mattresses that will give it your own personal expression which is at the same time funky and yet timeless.
Good things that are stylish, functional, and versatile to work with never go out of style. If you are looking for a great focal point for your indoor/outdoor space that combines all of these elements, a bed swing should be on your list. It’s definitely on mine.
