What is Garden Style?
Garden Style is a way of decorating that blends and blurs the line between the outdoor space and the indoor home. Depending on your own personal style it may be very bohemian with splashes of bold color and exotic fabrics mixed with rustic furniture or it may be soft blue and grey patinas in wood on a field of beige and rustic accents.
All garden style spaces incorporate some sort of rustic element. It is a statement of the casual nature of the style. On a deeper level it represents the connection to the passage of time and seasons, a theme that runs throughout all things in a garden. It can be achieved with the right rusty chair bought straight from a flea market, or if preferred as subtle as a skillfully painted light fixture designed to look aged through time.
Pottery is another garden element that when brought indoors can instantly provide continuity from your outdoor room and garden to the indoor decor. It is no accident that much of the beautiful pottery found today has strong Italian roots. Italians through the centuries have always emphasized the unity of the house and garden.
Living with nature requires a certain kind of mindset. It is not stuffy. It is not formal. It celebrates the seasons in all ways. Motifs on pillows of birds and berries, natural arrangements of twigs, pinecones, and pods gathered from the yard, and natural fabrics that change from cotton to wool as summer turns to winter;
things that are not fussy but natural are all part of the look. Add something unexpected such as a venetian mirror or a bohemian chandelier into the mix and it can transport you to a magical place and fill your heart with delight. This is the essence of Garden Style. Whatever your style, transitional spaces that blend the theme from the garden to the house are a great way to live with a garden style all year long. That’s Sage Garden Style…garden style for the ages… for the Sage in all of us!
