Here is a first look at updates I will be making to the garden design this spring. Today is the first day it has been warm enough to go outside for more than a minute in a long time. The garden is really in need of some TLC. Here is a photo of one section of the garden from last year in the middle of summer…
(It doesn’t look like this now. )
We have a 300 year old oak tree that lost several limbs over the winter and the first item of cleanup will be getting rid of those limbs. I was not able to do fall cleanup due to my busy work schedule so spring cleanup will be more of a chore.
I will post pictures of the sad state of affairs in the garden soon so you can see the metamorphosis and I can document all of the new garden design work and hopefully the result will be a good one.
You can go here to see the beginnings of the original concept and garden design in my project files.
I think this year my priority will be adding a few more evergreen anchors in the top section of the herb garden as it really looks like a vast wasteland once all of the herbs have died back for winter. This should also provide some shelter when the north wind blows to preserve some of the perennials that might survive with a little added help.
If there is one thing I have learned from gardening over the years is that nothing stays as it was. It is such a metaphor for life.
A lesson here is to really savor it when it is good and stop to smell the roses. The moment is fleeting. I guess the saying isn’t a cliche for nothing.
