I am such a fan of Dale Chihuly’s work. He has been creating colorful blown glass works that are the very definition of organic design . Much of his work can be seen currently at the Chihuly Garden and Glass Exhibit in Seattle. This one is in an ecosystem environment within the exhibit.
It is a long standing exhibition that has been open since 2012 and one of the places that shows “his lifelong fascination with glass houses and installations within botanical settings” as noted in the bio page for the Exhibit.
It seems very fitting . The work is instantly recognizable and unique and yet is a perfect example of design that feels so familiar and connects us to nature. His light fixtures, sculptures, and art pieces all convey a loose sense of fluid movement. He is at once, a fine artist but also has been commercially very successful.
His work can be seen in a variety of places from full scale architectural installations to museums and parks and they span the globe . If you are lucky enough to have the means to purchase one of his works here are a couple of sources to check out. Here is the official site and the pieces are all signed by the artist. While you are there check out some of his work-it is just spectacular and breathtaking.
Another great site to shop is 1st Dibs. It is an excellent resource for pre-owned fine art pieces . This page shows several chandeliers available from the artist.
(Warning. Great art comes at a price)
If you are a lover of the hunt for treasures here is one of Chihuly’s pieces next to a glass vase (not Chihuly) that I found at a local flea market at a very reasonable price.
I think it has a similar look, don’t you?
Here is another idea if you looking for a more affordable source but still want that artisan feel that delivers an organic flowing “piece de resistance” for your room. It is a round up of some of the my favorite glass chandeliers by artists on Etsy.
I love these and I hope you will too!
