Growing up I can remember my mother was always buying new throw pillows to change the look of a room. One throw pillow has the power to do that. The same applies to printed lampshades. Printed fabric lampshades can give a room instant personality with a modest investment. I think that is amazing. As a pattern designer it thrills me to think that the patterns I create play a role ,whether it be large or small, in the personality of a room. There is a pattern for every design style, color preference, and subject matter. From sophisticated to whimsical, patterns for printed fabric can be found that speak to you and add that certain something that you didn’t know was missing but now you do and when you know you know!
With that in mind here is a roundup of printed fabric lampshades for table lamps, floor lamps, and chandeliers from some well known brands and some lesser known artisan finds. Some are already made for you and some are fabrics just waiting for you to take them and make something wonderful.
If you have been following my blog for a time you will know that I am a huge fan of designer Josef Frank . He designed with intention to infuse nature into our interiors and that lives on. This idea is as relevant today (maybe even more so) as it was when he designed his vibrantly colored patterns of flora and fauna and put them out into the world. This one is available from the wonderful Swedish textile and wallpaper manufacturer Svenskt Tenn.
Anthropologie is another company always at the top of my list as a go to for finding just the right blend of well designed products that still possess that artisan crafted feel. There are so many great options in this category on the Anthropologie website and you can see all of them here. It was difficult to choose just one but botanical prints are at home in so many places and are a large part of what I choose to create and promote that this one won out as my choice to be featured in this post.
Spoonflower is an online fabric and wallpaper store that offers individual artists a great way to showcase their work available for sale and each order is custom made. Here is a link to my store on Spoonflower Badalucco Design. Home decor products with soft furnishings such as pillows, bedding, and tabletop products are all part of the mix but they also offer fabric available for creating your own upholstery, apparel, and home decor. Here are a few examples of my own designs that would work well for lamp shades:
..and here is a quick view of some of the designs that are tagged in Spoonflower under lamp shade fabric that were created by other designers. You can find everything from folk art to abstract art.

Etsy is another place that is a haven for finding one of a kind, unique, artisan products. Here are some great finds in fabric lamp shades.
I absolutely love this first one as it ticks off all of the things I am passionate about in my tagline, Design and Decor Inspired by Nature.
Hare Lampshade Woodland Landscape $99
This is another one that features a block print from ZZ decor. Block printed designs are some of my favorites and work so well with many styles. The motifs often reflect floral elements and are a traditional method of decoration that has roots in ancient cultures. Drum shades can be used for table lamps, floor lamps, and chandeliers too. Some of the most interesting chandeliers feature drum shades. Here are a few that show how versatile they can be.
Art Deco works it’s magic with angular shapes and motifs that reflect the age of modern architecture. Even these motifs are a reflection of nature in a modern form.
Among the formative influences on Art Deco were Art Nouveau, the Bauhaus, Cubism, and Serge Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes. Practitioners of Art Deco also found inspiration in American Indian, Egyptian, and early Classical sources as well as from nature.

Art Deco Gatsby Teal Handmade Lampshade $19.14
Sometimes a pattern just screams Country House/English countryside/quintessential cottage. This is that pattern.
Handmade Gathered Drum Lampshade Mughal Print $95.70
Who doesn’t love Target? They consistently put out great on trend designs that are budget conscious too. This linen shade with an overall floral print is a great option that will add some panache to your room without overpowering it.
Target Toile Stitch Lamp Shade Shell Threshold $12
I hope that these examples have given you some inspiration and a little bit of information to show that even a really small tweaks to your design layout can refresh your room and give it new life.
