Today marks the beginning of Spring, also known as the Spring Equinox or Vernal Equinox.
It takes it’s name from the Latin words vernal meaning “fresh” aequus “equal”, and nox “night”. As the equator of earth crosses the center of the sun you can look up at noon and see the sun directly overhead. The balance between daylight and darkness is equal on this day.
Marking the seasons is such a wonderful way to stay connected to nature. It is about renewal and growth. The Spring Equinox is celebrated in every culture, has roots in ancient rituals of music and dance, and continues to captivate us as plants and animals come to life after a long winter’s sleep.
Open a window and enjoy the breeze that flows through the house, plant something to bring you joy in the coming summer months, but most of all, take a moment to get out of the house and appreciate the beauty around you. You can play your favorite song, and if you are inclined, dance!
It’s good to celebrate.
